Custom Conveyor & Equipment Corporation designs and builds custom conveyors and material handling equipment for manufacturers in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and across the Cedar Valley. Our facility is in Cedar Rapids, about an hour south on I-380, where we engineer, fabricate, assemble and test the systems we build. We work with Cedar Valley plants through on-site or remote engineering consultations.
The Cedar Valley’s industrial base leans toward agricultural and heavy equipment, metal fabrication and food processing. That lines up closely with our project history, which includes conveyors for agricultural equipment manufacturing, heavy-part handling, chip and scrap conveyors and sanitary food conveyors.

Tell us what you need to move, from heavy drivetrain parts to machining chips. We’ll set up an on-site or remote consultation to define the need.
Built in Cedar Rapids, About an Hour From Waterloo
Design, fabrication and assembly happen in the same facility. In 2021 we moved into a new building in Cedar Rapids and tripled our production capacity. Our engineers and fabricators perform validation runs and real-world optimization tests before shipment, while a design is still easy to modify, so adjustments happen in our shop instead of on your floor.
Being about an hour away makes an on-site consultation practical for Cedar Valley plants. When the data can be gathered by your team with our guidance, a remote consultation works just as well.
Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing Experience
Our project list includes ring gear conveyors and an outbound material conveyor for agricultural equipment manufacturing. Agricultural and heavy equipment plants typically need to move large, heavy parts between operations without damage, and to carry material out of production areas without tying up people or forklifts.
When we engineer conveyors for parts like these, the design questions are usually the same:
- ✓
Part weight, size and geometry, and how the part must be supported and oriented on the conveyor
- ✓
How parts are loaded and unloaded, whether by operator, hoist, forklift or robot
- ✓
Protection for machined or painted surfaces, using non-marking contact surfaces where needed
- ✓
Integration with existing lines, automation cells and tight floor layouts
On the field side of agriculture, we also build lightweight aluminum conveyors for mobile ag platforms that run from the vehicle’s 24VDC bus, plus prototypes for new concepts.
Heavy Equipment and Large Part Handling
Heavy equipment manufacturing puts large loads on conveyors and transfers. We handle products from six grams to six tons per unit, and our heavy-duty work includes these projects.
- ✓
Heavy duty live roller conveyors that carry thousands of pounds and use hydraulic cylinders to adjust the passline for multiple products
- ✓
A five-strand chain pop-up transfer that handles many part lengths on one mixed-model line at an equipment manufacturer
- ✓
A 120 in wide roller bed belt conveyor that transfers 800 lb products between neighboring assembly lines
- ✓
A turntable for pallets up to 3,000 lb, and a fixtured slat conveyor that places heavy parts in precise locations for automated cells
Metal Fabrication, Machining and Scrap Conveyors
Fabrication and machining shops need to get chips and scrap away from machines and keep parts moving between operations. Our scrap and chip work includes a magnetic chip conveyor that keeps its moving parts out of fine shavings, a steel hinged belt conveyor lowered into a machining pit, and a low-profile laser scrap conveyor that deposits into a dumpster.
We’re a fabrication shop ourselves, with a 3kW fiber laser, a 12 ft 300-ton press brake and carbon steel, stainless and aluminum welding. The same equipment is available for contract fabrication of customers’ own products, from one-off parts to long-term production.
Food Processing Conveyors
Food processors need conveyors that are simple, reliable and easy to clean. We build with sanitary design best practices that minimize loss. Projects include a 28 ft stainless sanitary protein conveyor with a center drive and flip-up gate, a stainless wire mesh bakery cooling conveyor and a washdown-capable modular plastic belt incline.
How We Work With Cedar Valley Manufacturers
Most customers come to us with a question, often “Is it possible?” Some arrive with a machine already designed. Either way, our custom process follows the same steps.
- 1
Define the need. We work with your engineering, maintenance or operations staff on-site or remotely and help gather the data needed to validate the concept.
- 2
Engineer the solution. We design around your parts, building and existing equipment, or build to your print.
- 3
Build and validate. Fabrication, assembly, wiring and validation runs happen in Cedar Rapids before shipment.
- 4
Support it. We supply custom-made replacement parts and support the equipment for as long as you own it.
